Noel Elder Williams,
"The Son of God became a man to enable men to become the sons of God." C.S. Lewis
I've been reading Mere Christianity again and I just love the analogy he uses about how we are like statues trying to become real. I found this quote by Howard W. Hunter that really adds to the comparison:
"The real Christmas comes to him who has taken Christ into his life as a moving, dynamic, vitalizing force. The real spirit of Christmas lies in the life and mission of the Master...."
We are not fully awake until we awake to the possibilities that God has available to us. We are like an empty vessel unless we fill our soul with light and truth. The light and truth came down to us in the form of a helpless baby, yet it is a magnificent insight into the love that God has for us that he would send His only begotten Son, to help the truly helpless. I'm grateful for this hope we have.
My wish is to do as Charles Dickens suggests through Scrooge: "I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year."
I'm looking forward to talking with you. Let's plan on 12 Mountain Time.
Ho, ho, ho,
Mom
Hi Mom,
I love C.S. Lewis. He would have been a great Mormon.
This week has been crazy! Thursday I had an all mission conference, so
it was good to see all of my missionary buddies. It was in Santa Rosa,
so it is about a 6 hour drive from where I was at.
Then on Friday night Elder Penman and I caught a ride with some
members down to the Sacramento area, and on Saturday we went to the
Sacramento Temple. We did some proxy work first, then we got to see
one of his converts be sealed to her husband. It was really special.
On Friday night I got a call from President Alba. He asked me to move
to another area. So, I'm now in Fortuna with a new companion. It is
crazy. The area is so different. After getting back to McKinleyville
at 11 at night I packed a few things and headed down to Fortuna. The
elder before me had a talk, so I got to do one in my new ward. It was
good because I think that the ward likes me.
So we cover a ward, and also a branch about 40 minutes south of us.
So, right after we taught a class in the ward we had to go to the
branch. It is so small!
It'll be fun telling you more about it tomorrow.
I'll make 12 MTN work. I'm planning on skyping, so I will call dad's
skype. He emailed it to me. My skype is talliams. If I don't get you
on skype I'll call you on the phone. It all depends on if we can skype
at a member's home in my new area. I had it all set up in
McKinleyville, so we'll see what happens.
Love,
Elder Williams
